Addiction Support Worker -CCP

The Addictions Support Worker provides support to individuals struggling with drug addiction, alcohol addiction, gambling addiction, eating disorders, etc. through a cultural system of care which is congruent to the unique needs of Naicatchewenin First Nation.  This is a full-time position working Monday to Thursday 9:00AM – 4:30PM and Friday 9:00AM – 2:30PM.


  • Assists clients in exploring options and develops plans of action while providing necessary support and assistance;
  • Ensures that the cultural protocol of Naicatchewenin First Nation is adhered to in the planning and implementation of all programming;
  • Ensures implementation of all programs is culturally relevant and appropriate;
  • Assists program participants in continuing their recovery through life skills, education, therapeutic interventions, and land based traditional healing practices;
  • Reviews client background information, interview clients to obtain case history and prepare intake reports;
  • Assesses clients’ relevant skill strengths and needs;
  • Assesses and investigates eligibility for social benefits;
  • Facilitates groups within the community;
  • Refers clients to other social services or assists clients in locating and utilizing community resources including rehabilitation options, legal, medical and financial assistance, housing, employment, transportation, day care and other services;
  • Counsels clients living in group homes and halfway houses, supervises their activities and assist in pre-release and release planning;
  • Meets with clients to assess their progress, give support and discuss any difficulties or problems;
  • Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of treatment programs by tracking clients’ behavioural changes and responses to interventions;
  • Provides crisis intervention and emergency shelter services;
  • Maintains contact with other social service agencies and health care providers involved with clients to provide information and obtain feedback on clients’ overall progress;
  • Maintains program statistics and completes reports as directed;
  • Builds cooperative working relationships with community members, partnering organizations, and other service providers;
  • Maintains and promotes safety by being a proactive safety leader and by following safe work practices and policies as prescribed;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned


  • A diploma in Social Service work, or related field with mental health and addictions training;
  • Experience working in Mental Health and Addictions field with experiential learning, education, aftercare, and client centered models of care;
  • Must possess valid driver’s license, have clean driver’s abstract, and be insurable
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain current First Aid and CPR qualifications
  • Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a vulnerable sector criminal records check.
  • Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a drug test.
